NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL HIGHER EDUCATION PROJECT (NAHEP) HAS BEEN FORMULATED BY INDIAN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE WITH A TOTAL COST OF RUPEES 1100 CRORES (US$ 165 MILLION) FOR FIVE YEARS STARTING FROM 2017-18. THE PROJECT IS PROPOSED ON 50:50 COST SHARING BASIS BETWEEN THE WORLD BANK AND THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA,IMPLEMENTED AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SOILSCIENCE, PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, LUDHIANA (PUNJAB). SO THAT A HOLISTIC MODEL CAN BE DEVELOPED TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF CURRENT AGRICULTURE EDUCATION SYSTEM THAT PROVIDES MORE JOBS AND IS ENTERPRENEURSHIP ORIENTED AND ON PAR WITH THE GLOBAL AGRICULTURE EDUCATION STANDARDS. THE MANDATE OF PUNJAB AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY INCLUDES PROMOTION AND COORDNATION OF EDUCATION IN AGRICULTURAL, AGRO-FORESTRY AND ALLIED SCIENCES IN THE COUNTRY. SCHOOL OF NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE ON GENOMICS-ASSISTED CROP IMPROVEMENT AND MANAGEMENT
Centre for Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology (CAAST) is a new initiative and student centric sub-component of World Bank sponsored National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) granted to Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab) to provide a platform for strengthening educational and research activities of post graduate and doctoral students. Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab) was selected by the NAHEP-CAAST programme. NAHEP sanctioned Rs 19.99 crores for the project of IARI on “Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Agriculture” under CAAST programme. The project at PAU specifically aims at inculcating sustainable agricultural education and skills among the students and enhancing the expertise of the faculty of PAU in the area of agriculture. M.Sc. and Ph.D. students will be trained at Institutes of International repute. CAAST will organize lectures and training programmes, and develop online teaching useful to the student and faculty.
